Extract from Mon.Anc. 3:
Bella terra et mari toto in orbe terrarum saepe gessi victorqve omnibus veniam petentibus civibus peperci.
I undertook many wars by land and sea, in every part of the world; and as victor I pardoned all citizens who sought mercy.
The throphy consists of weapons and armour of the defeated, attached to a pale in a formation that it could remind of a human shape. It was meant as votive-gift to the goddess that had helped in the war.
