Text: ALME SOL
POSSIS NIHIL VRBE ROMA VISERE MAIVS

O quickening Sun,
May nought be present to thy view
More great than the city of Rome.

Extract from Carmen Saeculare 9-12
Alme Sol, curru nitido diem qui
promis et celas aliusque et idem
nasceris, possis nihil urbe Roma
visere maius!

O quickening Sun, yet ever new,
Lead'st out the day and bring'st it home,
May nought be present to thy view
More great than Rome!

The monuments are: Colosseum, the temple of Saturn in Forum Romanum, Arch of Constantine, in the shadows to the right the Imperial Fora with Torre delle Milizie, in the background the church of St. Peter, and possibly also the Axum Column, brought back from Ethiopia in 1935.
