Portrait of Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882)

Garibaldi started the unification of Italy by his landing on Sicily in 1860.

In the the bottom panel between the years 1860 and 1910 a symbol with a face and three legs. Between the legs the letters PA NORMU TAN(US). "Panormus" was the ancient name of Palermo. The face with the three legs is a personification of Sicily, Trinarchia, which means the island with three points (or legs).
