Horace (65 BC. - 8 BC.) was an outstanding Latin poet and satirist under the emperor Augustus. He combined passion with irony to create a series of short odes that illustrated both Roman politics and his own refined sensibility. He was included in the circle around Augustus by Maecenas. Many of the odes are homages to Augustus and his new regime.

All stamps have quotations from Horace's works. In lower right corner SNDA, Societa nazionale Dante Alghieri. In the lower left corner the arms of Savoy with fasces.
