The town Vittorio in the region of Veneto region was named after Vittorio Emanuele II. It was the scene in 1918 of the decisive defeat of the Austro-Hungarian army. The victory at Vittorio Veneto was extremely for the Italians after a series of defeats, and almost every town in Italy has a monument for that victory.
